What does it take to have an effective discipleship program?

  • Knowing God– During two weeks, students learn the “basic” concepts of who God is through-

    • Renewing the Mind– building a strong biblical knowledge base via detailed key components of Christianity and their scriptural sources

    • Experiencing God- building a strong relational knowledge of God through spiritual disciplines and biblical relationship concepts.

  • Living in Healthy Community- understanding what “healthy” Christian community is and how to grow this by knowing-

    • Created for community- God’s triune nature is relational and we are too

    • Building community- what are the needed components of community and practicing them

    • Expanding community- how we expand our community to others outside our existing community

During our first year, we introduce the participants to both “Knowing God” and “Living in Healthy community” training tracks during our 2-week, in country, intensive training program. These tracks are continued in over the next two-years as you will see in each curriculum section. Year one, is where we begin.

  • Learning to write their spiritual journey, which is a lead in to building a Christian Worldview narrative by the end of year three is where we begin. In addition, basic topics- knowing truth, spiritual disciplines, and understanding who God- begin our “knowing God” training model for year one.

  • Understanding why a Christian community is important is where the second track of our program begins. Knowing that God in perfect relationship within the trinity and that we are broken and fallen from that form of relationship helps students see the need for community. Within this part of the training, learning how to increase face-time with God, journal about that face time, and build healthy community with others inside your fellowship are key. Prayer and study groups during the first year are overseen to ask “good” in-depth questions that will help build up another person in their needs as well as successes. This takes a lot of work at first as we typically don’t live in these types of communities or relationships. DIA’s are instrumental in building this community by spending quality time in a kind of “day-off” with sister’s in Christ. We believe discipleship outside of the body can only take place once we build a healthy community within the body. The DIA’s help build this community by spending time with one another.
